November 2008: Remanufactured cartridges
With the economy having it's ups and downs it is hard to keep your business running. A lot of companies have gone out of business and some have stopped making purchases until they absolutely have to.
One way to save money is looking at remanufactured and compatible supplies. The toner remanufacturing industry is training companies in the STMC certification program. Companies that pass the training are certified that their cartridge will work as well as if not better than OEM cartridges. They are then allowed to put the STMC logo on their cartridges. They have their cartridges tested against OEM cartridges to prove they perform as well. The cost of the remanufactrued cartridges can save you money and with the STMC certification your can be assured the cartridges will perform as expected. As with anything, you can get a defective cartridge whether it is remanufactured or OEM.
When looking to cut costs and save money, don't forget to look at remanufactured and compatible cartridges. They may not be available for all printers, give me a call and I will let you know that options are available.
September 2008: Ribbons & Paper rolls
Many businesses accept credit cards and we can get supplies for these machines. Some use a ribbon and paper rolls while others use thermal paper rolls. Just let us know the model of your machine and we can let you know how much these supplies cost.
Many businesses use a cash register and these also use a ribbon and paper rolls or thermal paper rolls. We can get supplies for these also when you let us know the model numbers.
Sometimes the paper rolls will come in different sizes for the same machine and you can save money by getting a larger roll of paper as long as it will fit inside the machine. Some of the thermal rolls are very small, but we have found some larger rolls that work just fine.
Postage meters are showing up in more businesses and we are seeing more of the supplies becoming available in a compatible or remanufactured state. Just let us know the make and model of your machine and we will let you know what is available.
Help us become your one stop for all your supplies!!
July 2008: 15th Anniversary
Custom Office Products celebrates our fifteenth year of business!!
We started business in June 1993 and are still in the same location.
I would like to thank all of our customers for making this possible.
With all of the mergers, acquisitions and companies going out of business it is nice being able to say we are still here and plan to be for a very long time to come.
The marketplace has changed a lot in the last fifteen years. At one time we had a machine for each task: fax, copier and printer; new we have a multifuction that does it all. We used to just print in black and white, but now color is everywhere. Please keep us in mind when you update your equipment as we can let you know the cost of ownership by comparing the cost of the supplies.
May 2008: Extending printer life
With the price of printers getting so low, most people just throw them away when something goes wrong. You can do a few things to make your printer last longer and run better.
If you take a vacuum and vacuum out the vents and fan, it will help to keep the air flowing freely inside the printer.
If your printer has filters that are removable, clean those off also and vacuum off where they go back into the printer.
When you need to add paper, wipe out the paper tray and the inside of the printer with a lint free cloth to remove the paper lint. Try to wipe out the inside of the printer every time you replace the toner cartridge. I include a toner rag inside every toner cartridge; just stretch it and wipe out the printer.
If you are using an inkjet or dot matrix printer, be sure to wipe off the rod that the printhead rides on as this likes to get paper lint built up on it. Take a damp cloth and wipe off the encoder strip behind the rod in your inkjet printer. If it gets a lot of excess ink on it, it can cause imaging problems.
March 2008: Winter Static
With the winter comes some problems that we don't see as much in the warmer months. We have a lot more static electricity around which can cause printer problems. Paper likes to stick together causing misfeeds and jams. If your environment is very dry you can add a humidifier to help with the static. Be sure to position it near the printer you are having problems with. You can also put an unscented drier sheet in the paper tray, taped to the bottom of the tray. When you refill the paper tray don't fan the paper as this will cause more static problems. Hold both ends and let the paper do a wave between your hands, this will separate the paper but not add static.
Sometimes low humidity will cause print problems, it will look like squiggly lines running from the side of the page. It usually just runs down one side, part way across the page. This is not the same as tire tracks which means the drum is failing in the toner cartridge or reaching it's end of life.
If you have any questions, abou the above problems don't hesitate to contact me to discuss them.
January 2008: Internet Scams
I have been hearing about some internet scams that I thought I would pass on to everyone.
The first is a website that has a very low price on a popular item. After you finish giving the website your credit card information you are informed that the item isn't available, but then it is too late as they already have your personal and credit card information.
The second is a website being advertised on another site. You find a product you want that for a limited time is very inexpensive. You place the order for a small amount and get an email saying that if you want to keep the item you will be billed a much larger amount.
If either of these happen to you be sure to contact your credit card company immediately to let them know what you authorized on your credit card.
