Newsletter November 2009: Wiping clean
Whenever I send out a cartridge, I try to include a yellow toner rag. When you change the toner cartridge use the rag to wipe up stray toner that is inside the printer and the paper lint. You just have to stretch the rag before you use it and the toner will adhere to it. I try to wipe the bottom and sides of the interior of the printer. If these get dirty they can cause all kinds of imaging problems. I also like to remove the paper trays and cavity. You can also wipe off the fan casings if you have access to them. It's a good idea to run a test page after wiping out the printer as some toner gets in areas that can't be reached but will come out on the first printouts.
If your printer is having problems picking up the paper out of the paper tray, try wiping off the roller with a damp rag, not the toner rag. This way you can remove some of the printer lint and get the roller back to beige able to grip the paper. Rollers do need to be replaced from time to time. Call me to find out which rollers are available.
Newsletter September 2009: Buy local
I keep hearing people saying that we need to stimulate the economy. I know one way that we can get it stimulated and that is by buying American made products.
All of the remanufactured toner cartridges I sell are made in the USA and mostly in Wisconsin, which helps our local economy. The remanufactured inkjets come from Michigan which is also the Upper Midwest. The reloaded printer ribbons come from Florida and the compatible ones are made in California.
The OEM cartridges come from all over the world and most aren't made in this country. So if you want to help the economy, think about using remanufactured or compatible supplies. Ask your vendor where they get their supplies from to make sure they are made in the USA. We are getting a lot of compatible supplies from China. I get emails everyday from companies in China that want to sell me remanufactured or compatible supplies. I just delete them as I want to buy American made whenever I can to keep our economy moving and people employed.
So, please think about where things are made before you make a purchasing decision.
Newsletter June 2009: Paper jams
I am getting a lot of calls about paper jams and people can't remove the paper from the printer. When you get a paper jam, try to pull the paper out in the direction it was going. Try to pull slowly with both hands so you won't rip the paper. When you rip the paper it makes it harder to remove. Sometimes it will rip into small pieces that get stuck on the edge of the paper path and cause more jams. Make sure you get the whole piece out before trying to print again.
You have to be careful when the paper is stuck in the fuser unit as the fuser sleeve or film can tear easily. Then, you have to replace the fuser. Sometimes you can't all the paper out of the fuser without rolling the gears or removing the cover. Check your printer manual before removing any parts.
Look at where the paper is jammed before trying to remove it to see what is blocking its path. Sometimes a paper flag will be in the wrong position and cause a jam.
If you are having any jamming problems, please call and we can help you to find the problem and solve it.
Newsletter May 2009: Beware of scams
It seems like more scams emerge when things get bad and more people fall for them. I have won the lottery over the Internet, but never got a ticket. People have died and wanted to give me millions of dollars by helping them to get a loved one's estate settled. If you are selling a car, they well send you extra money to send to someone else. I get people pretending to be deaf that want to order office supplies and wire the money into my account, but they all seem to live in a coastal state. Sometimes people I have heard of will email me trying to place a large order that they want shipped to them and they will either wire the money into my account or pay by credit card. Whenever I get one of these, I go online to see if the company exists or not and most of the time the address isn't for their business.
I have found that if it sounds too good to be true, it is more than likely a scam to get your money. So, if someone that you don't know approaches you with a proposal for a large order, think twice before accepting it as you might end up losing your hard earned money instead.
Newsletter March 2009: Remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges
With all the companies going out of business or laying off employees, everyone is looking for ways to save money.
When you buy remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges, you can save money and create jobs in the United States. A lot of the businesses that do remanufacturing are small businesses that just service their customers. Most have taken the STMC certification program to make sure their cartridges will perform as well as the OEM cartridges. Some remanufacturers have become very proficient at remanufacturing cartridges and wholesale them to other small businesses for resale.
The OEM cartridges have had price increases in the past few months and it almost seems like they are trying to pric themselves out of the market or get people to upgrade their equipment. With all the increases, it makes the remanufactured cartridges a better bargain. The only way to know if this will work for you is to try a remanufactured cartridge.
January 2009: HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I've been getting a lot of calls from customers that their companies are going out of business due to the economy. They just aren't getting the orders like they used to and the phone isn't ringing with new orders. Maybe we need to be more proactive and make the calls looking for new business.
As salespeople we need to look for opportunities to get new business and expand the business that we do with our current customers. I know it is hard to hear "no" when calling someone, but if we just get past them and don't take it personally, we will start hearing "yes" from others.
Hopefully things will start to turn around with the new year and a new administration.
